Way back at the beginning of summer.... way back when my computer was down ......when I couldn't post pictures.... my girls and I heard that one of their favorite shows was going to be close by. Extreme Makeover Home Edition was coming to our area!! Talk about excited-I knew right away I was going to take them to check it out.
We didn't know exactly where at first, just that they had picked a building company and were looking for volunteers.
We kept checking the day they were announcing the exact location and decided to visit that week. It was really amazing-so different from what you see on TV. We were lucky, we went on a beautiful day in a week of rain and were able to get real close-there weren't too many people. Everything was very organized from letting you know where to park and busing you to the site to where you could watch everything.
My girls were able to meet Didi and were thrilled. My older daughter saw her walking down the street and called out "We love your show". Didi came right over to talk to them which was so nice-you could tell she was hot and tired.
This is the view walking up the street after the bus dropped us off. You can only walk on the side of the road and there are trucks and workers everywhere. This house was in a development and I felt a little bad for the neighbors. Everyone had to pass by security and had signs in their cars that said resident. One thing you never think about is the houses around the house being built. Their yards are pretty much taken over and used for the tents where work is done, viewing spots and places to cook/serve food.
This is the house being built. While we were there, they did a lot of electrical work, put in the front door and started the siding. We talked to some of the workers who had been there all night and they had put in all the duct work. You can't really see in this picture but on the left hand side of the front door, there is a huge window made up of smaller windows-that was my favorite part of the house.
As I mentioned before, at the start of the summer we had rain almost everyday so the site was a mud bath. I took a picture of my daugher's feet and this was in the beginning. Our feet were filthy when we left and our clothes were all splattered in the back. There was a cow field close by too so there was a bit of a lovely smell in the air :)
My girls were interviewed by the local news and were on TV too-talk about double excitement. Celebrities for a day!!
Can't wait until this is on in the fall-it'll be so cool to see the show after having actually seen the house and the work being done.
