I just knew.....

there was a legitimate reason to keep m&m's in the house....

the peanut kind, that is....

Sometimes a handful of peanut m&m's- eaten in the closet... by myself for a couple of minutes- gets me through the afternoon.

and yes, I hide them from my kids.

This weekend at my son's birthday party, good friends of ours- who I have confessed to about searching in the cabinet, in a panic, for any m&m's on a tough day- gave me a present-a 5 lb bag of my favorite peanut candy-5 lbs-that's alot of happiness and yumminess!

Now, I could have hid those yummies right away but once night came it was time for my 6 year old to take her antibiotics-a horrible, yucky tasting antibiotic. It was her second day and she still hadn't taken a full dose. We had tried juice, doritos, anything I could think of to mask the taste. I looked online for some ideas. One was a reward chart but I didn't think that would help at that moment. Another one was to put chocolate syrup on the spoon and put the medicine on top of it. I would have tried that except I didn't have any chocolate syrup. Then I spied the m&m's. I gave her a handful, promised her a handful each time she took her medicine (oh yes, I'll buy more) and we went to work. We call it "m&m ing" up her mouth and it's been working. Still not easy peasy to get her to take the medicine but at least she's getting it and not totally miserable.

So, there's a reason to keep m&m's in the house-besides just for mom's sanity-and the next time I'm at the store and think "I really don't need those" I'll remember-I do need them-you know, just in case someone doesn't want to take their medicine!!

Have a great day!

Oh I can soooo picture you hiding in the closet with a handful of m&m's...When I was teaching I too had a stash that I would go to in times of need! That's hilarious! As far as the medicine...whatever works. We've already started resorting to treats for really tough moments like this.

Plain m&m's is what my mom used to teach me to take pill medicines as well. That way if I couldn't swallow the m&m it wasn't too bad if it melted in my mouth or I chewed it. It was also a fairly decent size replica of an aspirin tablet. It sure beat ground medicine in a teaspoon of sugar!!!
Funny you mention the hidden stash. Here at school, most all the teachers keep a stash hidden somewhere for those really tough days!

Ha, I see Katie from A Listmaker's Life was working on our blog and forgot to sign out (top comment)!

Anyway, we have mini marshmallows that work to get little missy to do pretty much everything!

Doesn't that go along with the saying, "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down?" Works for me!!! ;) Great idea Dawn. I have a hard time getting that stuff down sometimes with my kids. I'm going to have to remember this little trick!

THANK GOD! I am not the only one who sneaks the good treats and eats them with her face half buried in the pantry. Amid prying eyes and "whatcha got mama?"'s It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only sugar fiend with a tinge of greed. But I ENJOY them more than the kids could ever understand. What with their consuming an entire bag in 25 seconds or so. One bag of m&ms can provide a weeks worth of sanity! :)

too funny! thanks for coming by my blog this morning!

My grandparents used to have friends who would come visit when I was a little girl. The lady always brought m&ms for me and her to eat...she called them nerve pills! I think that is too cute!

looking forward to getting to know you!
